Will a watermark survive audio processing?
Protect has been tested against compression, trimming, resampling, EQ, pitch shifting and time stretching. Recovery depends on the recording and the extent of processing. A successful test does not guarantee recovery from every altered file.
Do I need the original audio to trace a copy?
No. Protect uses blind detection, which reads the watermark from the recovered audio. A longer, less heavily processed recording generally gives the detector more information.
Does a watermark prove who leaked a recording?
A decoded watermark can link a copy to its assigned recipient. It does not establish who subsequently shared the file, whether an account was compromised, or whether sharing was intentional.
